There are plenty of people, doctors included, that believe vitamins provide low to no benefits. However many others do believe in the efficacy of vitamins, especially for nutrients that our body stops producing as we age. Ray Kurzweil, an inventor/futurist, is one of the latter group and religiously takes more than 100 vitamins per day.

There have been many reports claiming that the incidence of various neurological conditions, such as Alzheimers, Parkinsons, ALS and epilepsy, have basically doubled in the last 20 years. Many scientists and medical professionals are stumped as to what is causing the surge, but there are a few that might have come across a possible culprit.
The Toxic puzzle (2017) delves into the research of ethnobotanist Dr. Paul Alan Cox and neurologist Dr. Deborah Mash, among others, who examined autopsied brain tissues from deceased patients with Alzheimer's, ALS, and Parkinson's. They discovered elevated levels of the neurotoxin BMAA in those brains, linking it to neurodegenerative diseases and that the algae blooms that manifested large amounts BMAA occur all over the world.
The most alarming thing they discovered about BMAA is that it mimics the amino acid L-serine in our bodies and when present can be used instead of L-serine when the body constructs proteins and enzymes and these find their way into the brain causing degradation of neurological functions.
The film traces BMAA's origins to cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms in contaminated freshwater sources like lakes, rivers, streams, and reservoirs—often exacerbated by agricultural runoff (e.g., phosphates and nitrates from fertilizers) and other environmental pollution. These blooms thrive in nutrient-rich waters due to human activities, allowing BMAA to enter the food chain via seafood, drinking water, or aerosolized exposure near affected bodies of water.
After I watched this I decided to add L-serine to my daiy regimen, and I suggest you do the same because it seems like a fairly easy way to protect yourself from possible neurological degeneration.
Nearly half of Americans are deficient in Vitamin D levels, a vitamin the body uses to maintain healthy bones and the immune system. This deficiency could very well be attributed to the sunscreen ads we've been bombarded with for years.
Yes, sunlight can improve your health by helping your body produce vitamin D, which is essential for strong bones and a healthy immune system. Additionally, exposure to sunlight can boost your mood and help regulate sleep patterns. In fact light in the morning, generally before 9 am is extremely beneficial to you as it is mostly infrared which powers the mitochondria, the engine of life within us, and helps maintain your circadian rhthyms which contributes to overall fitness.
Then also try to get at least 30 minutes of noon-day sun, which stimulates your body's natural production of vitamin D. How does this happen? “The skin absorbs ultraviolet-B rays, which triggers the conversion of a cholesterol molecule in the skin into vitamin D3, the active form of vitamin D.”
Here are some of the benefits of Vitamin D:
Another point to remember is that if you slowly increase your exposure to the early morning sun you can actually increase your resistance to getting sun burns later in the day. Also it has been reported that resistance to burning can also be increased through removing seed oils completely from your diet. Reports on X also have been circulating about people not burning as much once they removed seed oils from their diet.
Seed oils, like sunflower, corn, soybean and sesame oils, are high in omega-6 fatty acids. Proof that a diet high in seed oils is bad for you is that the amount of omega-6 in the body correlates very well with the increase in rates of death from coronary heart disease and also the rise of diabetes, obesity and asthma as well. This fact alone should be enough for you to avoid seed oils in your diet.
Most Americans cooked with animal fats until Crisco hit the market in 1911. It was developed with a new process that turned liquid oil into a solid at room temperature, and people were convinced by a relentless PR push ginned up health studies, a complicit FDA that published a food pyramid that pushed processed foods, (many made with various seed oils), and an industry bent on turning excess soybean production into profits, to switch from lard (which we now know was the healthier choice), to crisco (which most now know is definitely not as healthy).
This chart shows the increasing rise of seed oils in our diet, and also shows a correspondingly similar rise in diabetes, obesity and heart disease in the general population. So yes, I would say that removing seed oils and all processed foods from your diet, would be highly beneficial to you.
